WHAT IS FINE ART?

According to Wikipedia, Fine Art or the fine arts encompass art forms developed primarily for aesthetics and/or concept rather than practical application. Art is often a synonym for fine art.  Historically, the five greater fine arts were painting, sculpture, architecture, music and poetry.  Today the fine arts include the visual art and performing art forms, including the above but also including calligraphy, music, dance printmaking and yes, photography.

MIKE GUILBAULT FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

Although I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years, my passion grew from my early teens.  I have, literally, thousands of images I have made over the years that were purely for my own enjoyment.  I loved getting into the darkroom and spend hours on end producing beautiful Black & White prints.  At least they were beautiful to me.

When digital technology overtook traditional film, I no longer had a use for my B&W darkroom and sold off what I could.  Personal photography took a back-burner to the professional work.

However, with the latest printing technology available today, I am able to once again print my own work, much like I used to do in the darkroom, but with much more control and choices of media to produce a quality of print impossible to do before now.  And, now in colour too!

Today, the passion for my personal work has been rekindled.  Seeing my images in print is almost surreal, but very satisfying. Others seem to enjoy my vision as well which has prompted me to offer my work for sale.  Being the perfectionist I am, I strive to make each print the best it can be.

I've debated with myself for many months on whether to create Limited Edition Prints or just Open Editions. My views, as well as my decision for using Limited Editions is explained in greater detail here.

Please take a look at our Gallery of Fine Art. Everything you see is available in print form with some images selected for Limited Edition.  If there's something specific you're looking for, please ask.
